This question isn't really about technology preference โ it's about who's going to maintain the site and how often the content changes after launch.
When a traditional CMS wins
If a marketing team needs to independently publish pages, run campaigns, and update content weekly without involving a developer, a mature CMS with a real editorial interface is almost always the right call โ reinventing that tooling in a custom build rarely pays off.
When custom React earns its cost
When a project needs genuinely custom interactivity โ dashboards, configurators, real-time data โ or performance requirements a CMS theme can't hit, a custom-built front end is worth the higher upfront cost and the reduced editorial flexibility that comes with it.
We've built both for clients in the same month. The right answer depends entirely on the business behind the site, not on which stack is more interesting to build.
